The new school year is rapidly approaching and interviews are well under way. For any currently available positions in each prefecture, please see the linked Google Map in the "Current Openings" section below. To get an idea of where we might have openings for the new school year, we will list areas that we have "earned", "re-earned", or "expect to earn" in the "Expected for April" section below. These areas will likely include places where we currently have contracts such as Ginan, Godo, Ibigawa, Ikeda, Kani, Kasamatsu, Nakatsugawa, Ogaki, Shirakawa and more, and likely several other new towns and cities.

Please note that as presentation and contract season between us and the BOEs approaches, some contracts have yet to be finalized for the next school year. As we begin to hear back from our current ALT's around the end of the year, we will start to find out where we will have openings. We will update the list below to reflect new and current locations and include more details about those positions as regularly and as often as we can.

ALTIA CENTRAL is always looking for great applicants, both in-country and overseas, to join our team of fantastic ALTs for when positions come available in Gifu Prefecture. *For Overseas Applicants, please note that due to the conditions caused by the coronavirus, the border restrictions to enter Japan are constantly changing and we do not know what the conditions will be like as we progress forward. However, at this time, we do know it is possible, although with a bit more difficulty, to bring people over.

About The Position

Our contracts are largely based in central Japan, mostly in Aichi, Gifu, and Shizuoka prefectures; with a strong presence in Okayama and Hiroshima; a number of contracts in Shiga, Mie, Nagano, and Fukui; as well as a limited number of positions in Osaka, Kyoto and the greater Kansai area. If you are focused on going to Osaka and Osaka only, we will most likely not be able to help you out. Please note that we DO NOT have anything in the greater Tokyo Area.

The Role

An ALT’s work in public schools centers around creating positive interactions with the students both inside and outside the classroom and helping to provide enjoyable and energetic lessons. ALTs also develop and maintain a positive and supportive professional relationship with Japanese teachers by assisting with various tasks during the school year. ALTs will experience prolonged periods of standing, walking, and stair climbing. ALTs will also be encouraged to perform high energy movements such as running and playing with students. To help you find success in this role, our ALTs are frequently evaluated throughout the year based on their lesson’s clarity, how supportive they are, and the overall atmosphere they help to create in the classroom. We are dedicated to helping our ALTs grow and improve for their future success by offering ongoing advice, feedback, and more.

Working as an ALT is a great opportunity to improve your Japanese language ability, experience and appreciate cultural differences, and most importantly, to be positively involved with the development and well-being of Japanese students.

The Application Process

Once we receive your resume and cover letter, we will only reply to qualified applicants via email. Those that pass our subsequent screening questionnaire will then be invited to an interview. Unfortunately, due to the current conditions caused by the coronavirus, we will be forgoing our normal face-to-face interviews and instead temporarily resort to a Skype-only system for all applicants.

Ginan Town is located in the southern region of Gifu Prefecture near Aich and sits between the Sakai and Kiso Rivers . The greater metropolitan area of Nagoya is easily accessible by train and conveniently less than an hour away. There are lots of sightseeing opportunities with great access to several other large cities surrounding the area, such as, the World Freshwater Aquarium and the Water Eco Park.
